Obituary:

Nancy Ellen Holst, age 57 years, of Odell, passed away Friday evening, Feb. 26, 2010 at her home.  She was born June 3, 1952 in Deadwood, SD, the daughter of Harvard and Iris (Hammer) Crawford.  Nancy was raised in Lincoln and Adams, and graduated from Adams High School in 1970.  She married Dennis Holst of Odell on June 19, 1970.  Nancy joined Dennis for the first 3 ½ years of their marriage at Barber’s Point Naval Air Station at Ewa Beach, HI before moving back to Odell in 1973.  In that year Dennis and Nancy began farming and raising cattle, which continued until 1995.  In 1979 Nancy  moved with her husband and children to Denver, CO where Dennis attended Bear Valley Bible Institute.  In 1983, Nancy graduated from the Women’s Program at Bear Valley Bible Institute, and then the family returned to Odell.  Nancy worked as a homemaker and was an incredible and loving mom to her five beloved children.  Nancy also held positions at Blue Valley Community Action, Odell Elementary School, Beatrice State Developmental Center, Kansas North East Community Action Program, and her most favorite of all, as a children’s Bible class teacher and summer camp counselor/teacher at Camp IA-NE-KA-MO.  Nancy held volunteer positions with Parent-Teacher Association, Odell Community Club, and Hospice.  Her hobbies included gardening, mowing, making cards, jig-saw puzzles, riding motorcycles with her husband, and especially loving her children and grandchildren.  In 2001 Nancy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and won every battle it gave her for almost nine years.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Dennis; by five children, Kristin Smith and her husband Greg of Hickman, NE; Adam Holst and his wife Amy of Malcolm, NE; Dustin Holst and wife Tonya of Wentzville, MO; Katherine Jackson and husband Brandon of LaVista, NE; and Andrew Holst of Beatrice, NE;. by 10 grandchildren; by a brother, Harvard “Russ” Crawford and wife Anna of Corona, CA; two sisters Linda Stoehr and husband Dale; and Jeannie Pittam and husband Rod, all of Lincoln, NE; and by many nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvard “Barney” and Iris “Joy” (Hammer) Crawford.   

Memorial:

Memorial to the Church of Christ, Marysville, KS and Camp
IA-NE-KA-MO.

Cemetery:

Burial will be at the Marysville Cemetery.

Visitations:

The body will lie in state at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, 505 North Ninth Street, Wymore from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 P.M. Friday, and then at the Church Of Christ, 200 South 15th Street, Marysville, KS from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. Friday, and at the Lincoln Center one hour preceding the service on Saturday. 

Services:

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Lincoln Center, 405 North 4th Street, Marysville, KS., Dennis Holst officiating.
