Beulah Irene Scheele, age 78 years, of Blue Springs died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011 at the Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center. She was born Nov. 21, 1932 at Peru, NE, and moved with her family to southern Gage County at the age of four. She was a 1949 graduate of Liberty High School, and then attended Peru State Teachers College. She taught kindergarten at the Liberty Public School for two years. Beulah married Vern L. Craig on June 9, 1953. They later divorced. She moved to the Wymore-Blue Springs area in 1971. She was employed at Allen’s Grocery, Wenzl’s Tavern, and later Kay’s Café. Beulah married Willard Scheele on Nov. 5, 1974 and has been a Blue Springs resident since that time. She was employed at Blue Springs Keno from its opening until her retirement in 2005. Beulah was a member of the Blue Springs Firebelles, and served on the Blue Springs City Council for two years. Her hobbies included reading and was a member of a book club for over 20 years, mowing her lawn, her cats, collecting Coca-Cola keepsakes, playing keno and going to the casinos, and sporting events, especially the Uni. Of Nebraska Cornhusker football team, quilting, and especially eating chocolate.
Beulah is survived by three sons, Vern Craig II and wife Cathy of Hutchinson, KS; Darwin Craig and wife Lynn of Omaha; and Willard Scheele and wife Nina of Lincoln; by four daughters, Debbie Ash and her companion, Glenn Lay of Hutchinson, KS; Kathy Mittan and her husband Kevin of Wymore; Tina Thomas and her husband Scott of Blue Springs, and Angie Naumann and her husband Fred of Wymore; by grandsons, Jeremy Thomas, Freddie Naumann, Travis, Cody, and Parker Craig; Matthew and Michael Mittan; and Vern Craig III; by granddaughters, Cailey Scheele, Kristin Thomas, Kenya Naumann, Dana Fellows, Jennifer Craig, Dee Lynn Krehbiel; by two great grandchildren, Owen and Addison Krehbiel; by a special niece, Sandy Kotas and her husband Larry of Diller; by sisters-in-law, Ruth Rutti of Blue Springs; Pat Holman of Falls City; Marie Holman and Bessie Bontrager, both of Lincoln; and Ev Holman of Mesa, AZ; and by nieces and nephews. Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Clarence and Nancy Jane (Jones) Holman; by her husband, Willard Scheele on Oct. 22, 2009; by five brothers and three sisters; and by a sister-in-law, Ilma Scheele.
